CTV.ca Article and Interview with Matthew McNulty on Little Ashes

CTV.ca spoke with Matthew McNulty and had some new details for us on Rob’s performance.

Pattinson was up to a nude scene, but just barely

With Pattinson’s milky skin and big, saucer eyes, it’s easy to understand why producers cast him as García Lorca’s love interest.

In his YouTube’d nude scene, Pattinson poses with clothes before a mirror with a zeal that would impress “Sex and the City’s” Carrie Bradshaw.

As he tries to find a look to suit his new Spanish rat pack, Dalí covers his genitals and ponders his nakedness. In that instant Dalí’s confusion about his budding sexuality becomes apparent.

“That scene was really tough for Robert to do. He wasn’t feeling well at all,” says McNulty.

“Every time the cameras stopped Robert was running to the bathroom to throw up. It made me feel better,” laughs McNulty, who felt intimidated by Pattinson after seeing him in 2005′s “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

Pattinson’s portrayal of Hogwarts’ heartthrob Cedric Diggory earned the title of British Star of Tomorrow from the Times Online.

Countless comparisons to a youthful Jude Law quickly followed.

As says McNulty jokes, “Seeing Robert vomit all over the place made him much more human to me.”

USA Today Talks Films About Dali

The Many Faces of Dali.

His life was as wacky and dramatic as a Hollywood script, so it’s no surprise filmmakers would be drawn to the story of Surrealist prankster Salvador Dalí, the self-inventive global art star and architect of modern celebrity culture.

Little Ashes Review from The Little Ashes Promotional Blitz

Shannon McShane from the Little Ashes Promotional Blitz reviews Little Ashes:

Robert Pattinson’s performance, as the “master of surrealism” Salvador Dalí, was by far one of the most challenging roles I’ve ever seen. I mentioned the range of emotion that McNulty went through in the film as Buñuel, but that doesn’t come close to describing the extremes Robert took Dalí to. I’m (only a little) surprised to say, he pulled it off. I only say I was surprised because Pattinson has been built up so much that you have begin to wonder if he’s capable of living up to the hype and the expectations. But here? In Little Ashes and as Dalí? Unquestionably so. And while Dalí was a little crazy, in this film he was also funny, and Robert played the comedy like an old pro having the audience erupt in laughter on numerous occasions. I have a feeling that at this stage in his life and in his career, Pattinson is only beginning to scratch the surface of his talent.

Roger Ebert Reviews Little Ashes

Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times had this to say about Rob.

Robert Pattinson, the 23-year-old British star of “Twilight” (which was shot after this film). He is the heartthrob of the teenage vampire fans of “Twilight,” but here shows an admirable willingness to take on a challenging role in direct contrast to the famous Edward Cullen. Is it too much to hope that “Twilight” fans will be drawn to the work of Garcia Lorca and Bunuel? They’d be on the fast track to cultural literacy.

Twilight Examiner Interviews Paul Morrison

Amanda Bell talks with Little Ashes director Paul Morrison about the film, the cast, and the future: an exclusive.

With Twilight and How To Be star Robert Pattinson in the cast, and with his recent successes outside of Little Ashes, his fame is bringing a lot to the table for the release of this picture. About that, Morrison says, “I don’t follow it very closely, but mostly it has been great for us.” On the other hand, “where Rob has been misconstrued,” says Morrison, “and seemed to be putting down our movie when that wasn’t what he intended,” it can be irritating. Though, says Morrison, “I’m delighted for Rob for his success, and delighted, too, that he will draw a new audience to the movie. The fans of his who have seen it so far, who I’ve spoken to, seem very positive.”

Although, the review isn’t overall positive, he managed to say this about Rob’s performance.

Robert Pattinson braves Dalí’s eccentricity and grows with it.
